SOCAL Mission Statement
SOCAL WATER POLO FOUNDATION, INC. (SOCAL WPF) develops student water polo players primarily in the Tustin Unified School District (TUSD) high school areas of Beckman, Foothill and Tustin High Schools so that they may participate in high school and college water polo at levels commensurate with their fully developed talents. SOCAL WPF invests thousands of dollars each year in TUSD.
SOCAL WPF pursues winning and teaching the life lessons of youth sports in a Positive Environment.
SOCAL WPF supports the notion of scholar-athletes who excel in the classroom, in their communities, in their families, and in the swimming pool. SOCAL WPF seeks to enhance and develop sportsmanship in athletes.
SOCAL WPF’s Board, Head Coaches, Coaching Staff and all members support the following priorities:
Scholastics – Our athletes are students. We support the notion of successful student athletes. Success in the classroom and the athletic field provides lots of future choices. Good students make better water polo players and aquatics sports provide discipline for many facets of a life well lived.
Citizenship – Character matters. Good character provides the model for good citizenship. Amateur sports teach many life lessons – how to win with class or lose with dignity, how to try your hardest, how to fail and try again, how effort makes a difference, how continuous learning fuels a rich life, how to set and achieve goals and how managing mistakes is part of life. We teach respect for ourselves, our teammates, our opponents, the referees and the rules of the game. We build community.
Swimming – Swimming is a skill that can provide a lifetime of enjoyment. Swimming fast is a fundamental skill of water polo. Good swimmers make good water polo players and vice versa. We encourage water polo players to develop a passion for swimming fast and building their cardio base to play at the highest levels.
SOCAL WPF is an active Member of the Positive Coaching Alliance.
